When you come to Lubbock Impact, you’re likely first greeted by the smiling face of a volunteer, one of our four staff members or one of the members of the American Heart Association employees that work with and out of Lubbock Impact.

Nancy and Rebecca are some of those familiar faces that you may have seen and have served at Lubbock Impact through the American Heart Association’s Heart Corp initiative to reach rural communities. As they serve the community through Lubbock Impact’s clothing closet, food pantry, family events and much more, they are making connections, seeing the needs firsthand and making a lasting impact in the lives of so many. Nancy and Rebecca both massively facilitated the smooth operation of Lubbock Impact’s programs as they worked behind the scenes in everything from doing pickups, organizing pantries and staying behind to make sure the space is cleaned and ready for the next day.

When they are not serving in Lubbock Impact’s programs, they are planning and teaching classes and attending community events in Lubbock’s surrounding, rural communities to educate about heart health.

For Rebecca, this time was a steppingstone as she prepares to apply for medical school, with the dream of being an Emergency Room doctor. She was involved in Lubbock Impact’s Dental and Eye Clinics, helping them have what they need to operate efficiently and writing protocols to implement for the future of the clinics. While her contract through Heart Corps to be here at Lubbock Impact has ended, Rebecca has assured us that she will be back to continue serving her community.

Nancy, who has now been with us for over a year, has taken her personal experience as a Hispanic woman with heart disease to passionately pour into her community through CPR and blood pressure classes in small cities surrounding Lubbock. She’s jumped into every aspect of Lubbock Impact, is asked for by name by many of the kiddos and has a new inspirational art piece on the white board every week.

These two women have been incredible assets to not only Lubbock Impact’s programs but to the advancement of American Heart Association and Heart Corps’ initiatives. Their heart for community can be felt in every place they serve!
