Happy September! As the Lord ushered us into this month, we have been busy bees working on so many projects that are all coming to fruition by the end of September. Our staff, volunteers and participants are all ready to celebrate God’s goodness.

One of the big projects that has been four years in the making has already begun accomplishing what it set out to do. The Foundations of Healing medical clinic received our first patient on September 2nd! The clinic is now open on most Tuesday mornings from 8:30-11:30am and most Thursdays from 4:00-7:00pm taking patients by appointment. It has been a joy to hear volunteers greeting patients with excitement and providers caring for patients.

In January we were given funding from Parkhill to do a facelift to the Coffee Hall which is the entry point for all participant programming. We were able to get new, hospital grade furniture and add a fresh coat of paint to the space. The Coffee Hall is the point of hospitality for all who enter. “We are so glad you are here” is the centerpiece of the mural donated by muralist Jana Giles of Giles Creative Co., encapsulating Lubbock Impact’s heart and passion for serving this community. The final touches will be done this weekend (so make sure to come by and check it out)!

One of the last but by far one of the most fun things in September is our annual fall festival on Friday, September 26th. This event is a great opportunity for our participants to come together to build community. The Fall Festival at Lubbock Impact provides the opportunity for the traditional carnival games, treats, live music, etc. that families can enjoy for free without the burden of the ticket, food and activities prices that families would experience at the local fair. Our hope is to help participants make memories without the financial burden, allowing them to use their extra funds more wisely. If you would like to volunteer, we are still looking for some help that day.

As I was writing this the scripture that came to me out of Psalm 46 is Come and see what the Lord has done. I want you to see what God HAS and IS doing for His children. In a world that feels dark and unsure there is peace in the Lord we want to share. Psalm 46 starts out reminding us that God is our refuge and then in the second part of verse 8 he begins to remind us that God has destroyed what is not good. As the chapter ends there is the verse “Be still and know that I am God” to help us know that even in all the busy we have our Rock to steady us. That truth is what has held me together over the last several months of construction, change and steadfast serving others.

I have been ready to take a long exhale as I see what the Lord has done. Now it is time to settle in to do what we love to do at Lubbock Impact, minister to those who come to our doors seeking hope, empowerment and healing.
