When Sister Marian of St. Joseph’s of Orange toured Lubbock Impact and the Foundations of Healing Clinic for the first time a few months ago, her steps were slow and thoughtful. She wore a look of modest excitement as she took it all in, her heart drawn to the clinic, even though the space was still being shaped. She summed up the entirety of her emotions with the simple statement, “Lubbock Impact is Matthew 25 in motion.”
Those words held the weight of a lifetime.
Sister Marian grew up in a home shaped by quiet resilience. Her mother, though unable to receive an education, was strong and determined. When her husband fell ill, she found a job and supported the family despite having little money and no access to healthcare. Yet even in the hardest seasons, Sister Marian said, “I never went to bed hungry.”
When her mother passed away last year, and the family home was sold, there was an inheritance left behind, a final act of provision from a woman who had spent her life caring for others. Because of her vow of poverty through the convent, Sister Marian humbly sought a place where she could give the funds away. So, she began to pray. “Lord, where can my mother’s legacy live on?”
That prayer led her to Lubbock Impact.
When she learned about the work being done here, especially the upcoming Foundations of Healing Clinic, something within her clicked. A place where dignity is restored, pain is treated, and hope is made real. A place that echoes the love her mother lived out every single day.
She chose to invest her mother’s legacy in this clinic.
This month, she returned with a fellow Sister from the convent of St. Joseph of Orange, Sister Christine, to bless the space. There were no spotlights or fanfare, just prayer, a few moments of lighthearted laughter, encouragement, and the unmistakable sense that something sacred was taking root.
That moment was about more than a building. It was about the people who will walk through its doors: the ones who feel forgotten, the ones who are hurting, and the ones desperate for healing. It was about honoring a legacy by planting seeds for a future filled with restoration.
We are so incredibly grateful—not only for Sister Marian’s generosity, but for the deep spiritual connection now shared between our ministry, the Sisters of St. Joseph, and our partners at Covenant Health Systems, who introduced us and helped this relationship blossom.
The Foundations of Healing Clinic is nearly ready. And thanks to this beautiful legacy, we are stepping into its future with joy, reverence, and purpose.
