Empowering our community to strengthen their futures is woven into Lubbock Impact’s mission in many capacities. In our Foundations of Healing Medical Clinic, volunteer medical providers are one of the first steps in this process of empowerment and are fundamental to our mission. These volunteers give their time, energy, and expertise, often forming the first relationship a participant makes in our building; a relationship which can be the first of many signposts along the path towards breaking generational poverty.
Dr. Victor Chavez has worked tirelessly serving the Lubbock Community for almost fifty years. After he retired from his practice in 2024, he began using his expertise to provide weekly care for uninsured adults through our Foundations of Healing Clinic. This care is deeper than the medical treatment given.
Often, participants arrive at their scheduled appointment already anxious about what lies beneath the surface of their health issues. If the patient’s first language is not English, the anxiety can increase, not knowing if they will be understood and treated properly. As both an English and Spanish speaker, Dr. Chavez eases anxiety, instilling a comfortable and confidential relationship with all patients.
The trust he instilled in each participant doesn’t go unnoticed by the other providers here at Lubbock Impact. Our Foundations of Healing Medical Director, Dr. Suzie Beck, said, “He serves the Lubbock community tirelessly as a physician who puts the needs of the patient first.”
Seeing the quality of care Dr. Chavez brings patients at the Foundations of Healing Medical Clinic after his extensive and cutting-edge medical career, the Lubbock Impact staff felt it fitting to nominate him for an Adelante Award.
The Adelante Awards, presented by Los Hermanos Familia, is an annual Lubbock event honoring Hispanic men who excel in their careers and go above and beyond in serving Lubbock and surrounding communities. Recognizing and celebrating the role models moving our community adelante, which means ‘forward’ in Spanish.
On May 1st, 2026, Dr. Chavez was selected to receive the Adelante Award for the Medical category, a deserved celebration for a pioneer of family medicine in Lubbock and a consistent caretaker in our clinic space.
Dr. Chavez exemplifies what it means to serve with purpose. His dedication, both throughout his career and now within our clinic walls, reminds us that a true heart of service that has no retirement date. Lubbock Impact is honored to have him as part of our mission, and we celebrate this well-deserved recognition alongside him. We rely on volunteer providers to care for our community and Lubbock Impact family. The commitment given by Dr. Chavez and the rest of our medical volunteers are a steppingstone in strengthening generations to come.
Dr. Chavez has made a meaningful impact on both the participants he has served and the volunteers alongside him. His expertise and care are something we need more of in the Foundations of Healing Medical Clinic to serve the tens of thousands of uninsured adults in our community.
