Sometimes gratitude shows up quietly- through a shy smile, a whispered “thank you,” or a tear quickly brushed away. And sometimes… it dances.

During our Thanksgiving Box distribution, the Monday before Thanksgiving, as volunteers from Hope Lutheran, Lubbock National Bank, and a local homeschool family handed out over 200 boxes filled with all the holiday fixings, one woman got to show us just how grateful she was for the hope she had received.

As she pulled her car forward, her smile grew bigger and bigger. Before we could even finish placing the box in her trunk, she opened her door, stepped out, and right there in the parking lot, started dancing. Not just a small sway, but a full, joy-filled celebration. She twirled. She laughed. She threw her hands in the air.

Then, with tears in her eyes and the biggest grin, she turned toward our volunteers and began blowing kisses, one by one, like she was blessing each person who helped make her Thanksgiving possible.

“THANK YOU! THANK YOU! GOD BLESS YOU!” she shouted, her voice full of gratitude, and pure, unfiltered joy.

As she danced her way back into the driver’s seat and drove off, our volunteers stood still for a moment, soaking in the reminder that what we offer is more than a meal.

It’s dignity.
It’s hope.
It’s a moment of relief and celebration in a season that can feel heavy for so many.

And for at least one woman that morning, it was enough joy to make her dance.

Beautiful moments like these are possible because of the overwhelming community support that Lubbock Impact receives. Thank you to Hope Lutheran Church and St. Clair Orthodontics, who donated all 200+ Thanksgiving boxes. Each one was packed with care, intention, and the hope of easing a family’s holiday burden.

Volunteers from Hope Lutheran, Lubbock National Bank, and the local homeschool family showed up with servant hearts, helping hands, and warm smiles.

These opportunities to give back are only possible because our community steps forward again and again. It is through these helping hands that the mission of Lubbock Impact can be a reality, and we are deeply grateful.
