There are just some bandwagons that are worth getting on. As many in Lubbock learn and become enthralled by the sport of pickleball, several friends of Lubbock Impact saw a chance for a new way to support Lubbock Impact. Friends of Lubbock Impact will be hosting the first ever Rally for Impact Pickleball Tournament on September 6th and 7th.
Lubbock Impact’s Communications Manager, Raelynn Beaty, talks about how she has seen the sport of pickleball bring so many people of all ages, skill levels and backgrounds together. “Everyone is always invited, and we’ve seen beautiful, real friendships begin just from meeting to play together”. This spurred on the idea to put together Rally for Impact.
To get this idea off the ground, a few pickleball-loving people in the Lubbock Impact community, Julie and David Bloodworth and Peggy Reinhart, ecstatically leapt into the planning phases. Julie Bloodworth, who is also a regular volunteer and supporter of Lubbock Impact, was eager to help. “I have been playing pickleball for about 3 years now, and I know it is a fun and very social sport. When I heard of a fun way to help Lubbock Impact, I was excited!” From the beginning, they knew that this event’s purpose was primarily to be a community event that would secondarily raise funds for Lubbock Impact’s mission.
“The Lubbock community is so good about rallying to support one another” Beaty says. In the early stages of planning, the Burgess-Rushing Tennis Center readily donated their venue to Lubbock Impact to host this event. From there, many local businesses (listed below) quickly said “yes” to the opportunity to sponsor a court or donate their product, showing their support for the Lubbock community and the mission of Lubbock Impact. With traction still building, Bloodworth says, “I feel like when people are made aware of the focus of Lubbock Impact, they will be eager to join us in our journey to partner with participants.”
Rally for Impact will be Friday, September 6th and Saturday, September 7th. Registration for the event is required and must be submitted by Friday, August 23rd. We’re beyond excited to see our community rally together to make an impact!
