Lubbock Impact is a faith-based nonprofit that has been serving the Lubbock community since 2007. We have been on a mission to empower the working poor by providing enrichment programs and resources to meet physical, spiritual, and emotional needs. This provides the hope and tools to break generational poverty and build a stronger future. Lubbock Impact comes alongside individuals to help in the areas of food, clothing, healthcare, spiritual care, and enrichment programs.

Notes from our Executive Director

Most days, waiting is a part of the routine at Lubbock Impact. Whether it’s a participant waiting for a haircut, a table waiting for the Community meal to be served, a donor waiting to drop off clothing donations or a patient waiting to be called back for their appointment, there are moments that almost force a period of waiting. For most, waiting is welcomed, knowing that this gives a chance to meet a new friend, have a cup of coffee, learn about a new resource, or simply to sit in a safe space. But waiting, whether welcomed or not, has become necessary due to the 11% increase in participants served through our programs in the first four months of 2026.

As someone who often struggles to have patience and sit still in the waiting period, I have always been intrigued by those that come thirty minutes early for our weekly community meal. Individuals and families will come and rest in the sanctuary among the relative silence and low hum of conversation amongst neighbors and friends. It brings me peace to see participants just wanting to gather on a Tuesday evening to visit, rest, and wait.

In my own life, the Lord has used various seasons of waiting to gently teach me not to jump ahead or in front of His plans. When I sit back and wait, I have the space to notice that the Lord is doing big things at Lubbock Impact in this very moment. In each of these big movements, the Lord has gently reminded us to wait on Him. Our board has fervently prayed and diligently led in an intentional waiting season, trusting that the Lord will give us wisdom and make provision.

I won’t leave you waiting; here are some examples of areas we have been seeking the Lord’s guidance on, and His answer was “wait”.

Since the Foundations of Healing Medical Clinic opened in September of last year, the pharmacy has not been able to be fully utilized because it required a state license. We have used an offsite pharmacy to fill the patient prescriptions, but the cost of that can be extensive. The initial goal was to merge The Free Clinic pharmacy into the Foundations of Healing Pharmacy which should have been a 90-day process but instead, turned into eight months of waiting. To be transparent, it was incredibly tiresome, and there were a few times that I wondered if it would ever come together. Fast-forward to April 28th our pharmacy has passed inspection, we have received our state license, and the Foundations of Healing Pharmacy is officially OPEN! Last week was the first week to fill prescriptions in house. Lots of hours have been invested by many people who have seen this project to completion. In the waiting, we saw passion and purpose grow to meet patient needs.

The second project is still in the works so please excuse the slightly cryptic language; we’re excited to share what the Lord has planned but we’re not quite able to reveal the whole story yet! This particular project has been a need for the last 5 years, and while God has us waiting, there have been a few winks from Him that it will come together. All this time, He has been moving other’s hearts and preparing them so that at the right time it will all come together as HE has planned. Last week a new partner of Lubbock Impact met with me about this project, not knowing how many times we have reached out to others to move this forward but haven’t had peace about it. Many times, I wanted to rush ahead. This new partner shared that he was so moved by how neighbors are serving one another at Lubbock Impact. In that conversation, he shared that he and his family wanted to provide the funding in its entirety for this specific and large piece of the project to meet our need. I immediately began weeping! The Lord nudged me and I felt Him saying “see I told you to just wait.” I promise in the months to come we will share as it all comes together.

Waiting can be uncomfortable but in hindsight, it has sweet moments; people who join on the waiting journey, seeing how the Lord orchestrates the whole plan and the joy in the midst of it all. Whatever you are waiting on right now, may you find joy and peace as the Lord reveals Himself in it.
