Lubbock Impact is a faith-based nonprofit that has been serving the Lubbock community since 2007. We have been on a mission to empower the working poor by providing enrichment programs and resources to meet physical, spiritual, and emotional needs. This provides the hope and tools to break generational poverty and build a stronger future. Lubbock Impact comes alongside individuals to help in the areas of food, clothing, healthcare, spiritual care, and enrichment programs.
Notes from our Executive Director
Recently, I was teaching a bible story to a group of 5-year-olds in Sunday School. As we were in the deep of it, a little boy yells “Squirrel!!” Of course, 20 little kids can’t resist the chance to run to the window to watch the little squirrel. They loved watching him gather and run things to his nest.
As the summer fades and we look to fall, I feel like we have been in squirrel mode. I know that sounds funny, but it is true! We have been planning for the new season and making big moves as clinic renovations begin soon, while continuing to meet the needs of participants on a weekly basis. Amidst all of the business, it is cool to look back and know that four years ago, Lubbock Impact was only open on Wednesday afternoons. Now, we are open four days a week to serve the Lubbock community!
In terms of preparations for the new seasons, there are many moving pieces at play as we begin to close out 2024. Volunteers have been collecting jackets that have been coming in over the summer so participants will be ready for the first cold front that we are all hoping for soon. Interns and volunteers have been planning the Fall Festival for the end of September, preparing for a Casserole Family Night in October, and Bingo Night in November that will bring our Lubbock Impact participants to cultivate community. Volunteer groups have been signing up to help serve meals and local businesses have been offering to provide the weekly Community Meal. Participants have even been here volunteering to help us plan for the good that is to come in the coming months. We are like squirrels that we’re busy running around preparing and planning for Lubbock Impact to be here with doors open to meet needs and guiding participants to the right resources when needed.
On another end of preparations, our fundraising committee has also been planning and preparing for Lubbock Impact’s 3rd annual Taste and See Fundraiser. This fundraiser is a vital part in helping us continue moving forward. It is through our generous donors that we can continue to be open four days a week to serve our community. We recognize that planning for the future starts today so that we can meet the needs for tomorrow and years to come. The Lord has given us a big vision of what is to come so we are doing our best to prepare today. If you are interested in learning more about how to be a financial partner with Lubbock Impact, Taste and See may be the event for you. You can find more information about our Taste and See event taking place on October 24th through this link. We only have five tables still available for purchase so if you’re interested, don’t wait to jump in!
Thinking back to the kids from Sunday School, all I could do was laugh and wrangle them back in from their distractions. I was reminded of myself and the constant distractions that come my way and how the Lord must wrangle me back to focus on Him. This world is full of distractions that can steer us off our God given purpose. My prayer is that I can see a distraction for what it is and come back to my purpose and remember Proverbs 16: 3 which says, “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”
Blessings,
