Our current most frequently asked question: “Are you seeing more people coming to Lubbock Impact?”

In a time of uncertainty for the 58,000 people in Lubbock County who are unsure if they will continue receiving SNAP benefits, many are relying on help to feed themselves and their families. Through it all, Lubbock Impact has remained steady and sure, quietly assuring our participants that we will continue to stand in the gap.

Why is it calm here when the world feels uncertain? There are a few reasons.

We Have Not Been Given a Spirit of Fear

From the day Jesus fed the 5,000 to today in 2025, the Lord has always provided for His people. In that story, Jesus used one kind heart and a simple offering to feed the multitude. Here in Lubbock, we’ve watched Him do the same: using the generosity of this community to multiply blessings tenfold.

We Are Called to Be Slow to Speak

As James 1:19 reminds us, we are to be “quick to listen, slow to speak.”
In times like these, information and misinformation spread fast, and fear tends to spread even faster. Over the past month of government shutdowns and uncertainty, our team has taken time to listen, evaluate, and truly understand what is happening in our community.

Here’s what we’ve experienced at Lubbock Impact as food insecurity continues to rise:

  • 333 households on average have been served each month in 2025 through our Food and Hygiene Pantry (that’s around 961 individuals every month).
  • In October alone, we saw a 35% increase in households coming to shop (increasing to around 440 households served).
  • Our Tuesday Night Community Meal, which typically serves about 130 participants each week, has recently grown to 170 people weekly.

The need is growing. Families and individuals are doing their best to prepare for whatever comes next and we are preparing right alongside them.

Standing Firm in Faith and Action

For 18 years, Lubbock Impact has trusted the Lord and worked hand in hand with our community to meet basic needs and empower the working poor. We do not take lightly the fear that many in our community feel. The weight of wondering where the next meal will come from is real.

But here’s the truth: through every trial, every cut, every uncertain season no one has ever left Lubbock Impact hungry.

Lubbock Loving Lubbock

Before we even asked, the phone calls and emails began coming in:

“We know Lubbock Impact has the Food and Hygiene Pantry. What can we do to help keep it stocked?”

Generosity has overflowed.
An anonymous Walmart delivery arrived with a note that simply read, “To help feed people.”
A participant with a steady job gave $10, saying she wanted to help those with none.
Another donor dropped off groceries to refill our shelves.
Others have given online, each gift offered with trust, knowing it will be used to feed people in need.

Just two days before the feared SNAP cuts on November 1st, our Food and Hygiene Pantry opened as usual. The shelves were full, stocked with timely donations that met the needs of 81 households carrying heavy shoulders and anxious hearts. Every single person left with bags full of groceries, a winter jacket if needed, and a prayer lifted to our Heavenly Father on their behalf.

Unshaken Support

When federal or state funding is cut, Lubbock Impact doesn’t waver because we’ve always been completely supported and sustained by the people of Lubbock. When SNAP benefits decrease or disappear, our city knows where to turn both for help and to help.

We’ll continue to serve, love, and care for “the least of these,” just as Christ has called us to do.

The need is increasing and with it, so is the opportunity to love.

If you are desiring to stand in the gap with us, you can show love in powerful ways:

“They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.”
Psalm 112:7
