Have you ever wanted to give or help, but felt as though what you had to offer was simply not enough? If so, let today’s stories from Lubbock Impact remind you that God looks at the heart.
On October 29th we had a trunk-or-treat event in our parking lot, giving families a safe place to bring their kiddos. As volunteers began showing up, a small truck pulled in, and a couple that we see often at Lubbock Impact jumped out and said, “We are here to help!” The couple doesn’t have children but wanted to enjoy the evening with their community. They spent the evening passing out bags, laughing, and visiting with families. They come weekly for the Community Meal and other resources their income can’t provide, but they also want to give back to the community.
Donald was a man that found himself homeless after several misfortunes. He began coming to Lubbock Impact several years ago in need of many resources. Over time he was able to get back on track; however, he always would come and help Wanda with chores around the building. He was grateful and found ways to express his love to the Lubbock Impact family. Donald passed away several weeks ago and Lubbock Impact hosted his memorial service. He was a kind gentleman who will be remembered for his character.
Lastly, there is a twelve-year-old that comes weekly to Lubbock Impact with her single mom. They eat together at the Community Meal and then head to children’s ministry and Unpack. Several months ago, the young girl came to me asking if she could help serve meals and talk to participants when we served meals in the drive-thru. I said, “Yes!” Since then, her mom has brought her early several times to volunteer. This young girl struggles with peer connections, so this was a big step for her. Now she likes to stand by me – with the biggest smile – when I give instructions so she can mimic me. My heart is so happy because my hope is that she is learning from all of the volunteers and participants serving alongside each other. That is what family does! They serve one another.
I am incredibly thankful that the Lord chose for me to join Lubbock Impact because I have learned so much about compassion and commitment through people like you that are giving both time and treasure. And I have also learned from the participants that have come alongside to serve one another, giving their time and energy to help their Lubbock Impact family. May the Lord find us each expressing thanks to Him for His provision and kindness.
We want to thank First Capital Bank of Texas for volunteering and providing our Thanksgiving Meal this year! We also want to share that we have been the grateful recipients of several grants recently:
- South Plains Foundation – $6,500 for laptops and printer for Tutoring/GED
- Community Foundation – $5,000 for Community Meal
- Covenant Foundation – $2,500 for flooring in clinic areas
- South Plains Electric Foundation – $1,500 for an air compressor for new dental chair
- H-E-B – $15,000 for general funding
