Despite the cold and rainy night outside, the dining hall tables here at Lubbock Impact were lined with cupcakes, frosting and every decoration imaginable in preparation of Fun Friday. Families circled around the tables for “Cupcake Wars”, the kids giddy with excitement to decorate and then devour their delicious creations. Beneath the sights of flying sprinkles, candy wrappers and frosting covered fingers was teamwork, creativity and quality time with family and friends. One table welcomed a family of three generations with grandma just as excited as her grandkids to craft a daring cupcake castle. She mentioned how this was the first time in a long time that they had gathered around a table together simply to play some games, laugh and just be with each other. The kids were awarded prizes for everything from “Most Sprinkles on One Cupcake” to “Best Use of Googly Eyes”. The real prize however was undeniably the memories that each participant and volunteer left with: happy moments made through something as simple as decorating cupcakes around our dining hall tables.
